Meeting Feciah and Felisitah: Discovering a Need for Support

In Uganda, Heather encountered Feciah and Felisitah, six-year-old twin girls born deaf. Despite their mother’s best efforts, the family couldn’t afford specialized education at a deaf school. Without formal schooling, these girls were at risk of growing up without a language or the ability to communicate effectively.

Heather recalls, “I couldn’t fathom what it would be like to grow up without words. The girls deserved so much more.”

Taking Action: A Simple Step That Changed Lives

Faced with the challenge of helping from abroad, Heather made one bold move: she searched online for organizations that support deaf children in Uganda. That’s when she discovered Deaf Child Hope and sent an email seeking assistance for Feciah and Felisitah.

To her surprise, Deaf Child Hope responded promptly. Thanks to their intervention, the girls were accepted into a deaf school and started their education the following term.

“I was shocked but so excited,” Heather shared. “Taking that one simple step changed everything for these girls.”
