Transforming Lives Through Sponsorship: Stories of Families Supporting Deaf Children

At Deaf Child Hope International (DCH), we are dedicated to providing education, community, and hope to Deaf children living in poverty. Sponsorships empower these children with opportunities they wouldn’t have otherwise, and we’re inspired by the amazing families who have made a difference in their lives.

Harper and Lucy: Best Friends Supporting a Deaf Child in Honduras

Harper (6) and Lucy (7) are best friends from Eagle, Colorado. These two compassionate first graders share a beautiful bond—and a shared mission to make the world a better place. Together, they sponsor Angelica, a 15-year-old Deaf girl from Honduras who attends school at one of DCH’s 17 partner locations.

Harper has a 3-year-old brother who is also Deaf, which motivated the girls to learn sign language and support a Deaf child in need. Through their sponsorship, Harper and Lucy exchange letters, drawings, and prayers with Angelica. This connection is transforming Angelica’s life, giving her access to education and hope for a brighter future.

How Sponsorship Changes Lives

“We continue supporting DCH over the years because we know that this support provides these children a chance at an education that they wouldn’t have otherwise.”

The Michels Family: A 7-Year Sponsorship Journey from Wisconsin

The Michels family from Wisconsin has been sponsoring a Deaf child through DCH for the past seven years and recently added a second child to their family of sponsored children. Their decision to sponsor began when their son entered kindergarten, as they wanted to support another child going to school.

They cherish receiving letters and artwork from their sponsored children and keep their photos in the kitchen as a reminder to pray for them. The Michels family believes that sponsorship provides life-changing education and hope for Deaf children.

The Worrell Family: A Heart for Sponsorship and Hope Amid Challenges

The Worrell family from Mullica Hill, New Jersey, is a dynamic household with seven children, many of whom are Deaf and adopted from China. Tracy, a sign language interpreter currently battling stage 4 cancer, and her Deaf husband Tom are passionate about supporting Deaf children in need.

They recently began sponsoring An, a Deaf child from Vietnam, through DCH. Sponsorship is close to their hearts because they have witnessed firsthand the difference that love, care, and the hope of Jesus could have made in their children’s early lives in orphanages.

“We support DCH/Deaf children in poverty because we know these children tend to be one of the most overlooked populations. What better way to show a child you care than through sponsorship and creating a connection through letters and love?”
