When Bob (whose real name is Jean) arrived at the school in Mirebalais, on the Central Plateau in Haiti, he was very withdrawn (photo #1). He would not interact with the other deaf children. He would not go to most of the people at the hearing orphanage or the deaf school.
He had no expressive or receptive communication skills. Since being with the other deaf students he is interacting with the other deaf children (photo #2). He even smiles when his usually free feet (with flip flops) are encased in his uncomfortable Sunday tie shoes (photo #3).
